Get Focused go to Oxford: Preaching inbound marketing at the first UK HUG event

Get Focused on Marketing were delighted to attend the first ever UK HubSpot User group (HUG) conference in Oxford on September 21.

As Dublin HUG veterans, we were keen to meet with our UK counterparts and discuss all things inbound with the top inbound marketing agencies on the other side of the Irish Sea, and we were not disappointed with what was a great, successful event filled with informative presentations, valuable training, and a lot of lucrative networking.

As with the Dublin HUG, the UK group is building a community to share best practices and insights into the world of inbound marketing, welcoming marketers, sales professionals, business owners, HubSpot users and anyone with an interest or mere curiosity in the inbound marketing methodology and how it can ensure great lead generation and conversion for your business.

There were lots of takeaways from the most recent Dublin HUG, and similarly, we learned a lot from our day and as well as taking a lot of actionable ideas away, we also made some great connections and friends with the more-than 100 attendees at the event to help us provide an even better service for our clients.

Introduced by Babelquest co-founder Becky Murphy, the first presentation came from Digital 22 director Rikki Lear, who spoke about inbound strategy and was followed by Toast Inbound director Vaughn Armstrong, who spoke about keywords with his ‘How to Rank First for Chocolate’ presentation.

Next up was Lexisclick founder and director of strategy Stephen Bavister, who discussed the hidden technicalities behind SEO, followed by Klood’s head of inbound marketing Trevor Nicholls, who discussed Pay Per Click.

Get_Focused_explain_website_transformation_to_UKHUG_event.jpgHe was followed by Get Focused On Marketing’s very own director of sales and strategy Ross Lauder, who as well as characteristically lowering the tone in the lavish and austere surroundings of Oxford Town Hall with a bawdy intro, also managed to re-raise it with a talk on transforming tired brochure websites into ROI-based business assets.

A short break was followed by the keynote speech from Grainne O’Sullivan, Channel Consultant at HubSpot EMEA, who spoke about lead conversion in inbound marketing, with Katapult’s digital director Martin Broadhurst then speaking about closing sales the inbound way.

The presentations concluded with Babelquest co-founder Eric Murphy, who spoke about aligning sales and marketing with his presentation ‘Inbound Growth and Alignment’.

After that, it was off to the pub for more great networking, not to mention a few drinks.
